Terms of use
What you may expect from Distillation Lab, and what we expect from you. They apply to the simulator at distillationlab.app, as a guest or with an account. The Privacy page says what is kept about you.
1. Who provides the service
Distillation Lab is provided by distillationsimulator.com ("we"). Questions: info@distillationsimulator.com.
2. What the service is
Distillation Lab is a simulator: it computes what a batch still or a continuous plant would do, from a model and from published data. It is made for learning and for trying ideas before you spend time and material on them. It is not a controller for real equipment and gives no instructions for operating one.
The simulator is in development (a public beta). Features may change or go away, the service may be interrupted or end, and a run, recipe or product saved now may not open in a later version. We do our best to keep your work, but we do not promise it.
3. Using it
The simulator is free to use during the beta. You may use it as a guest, or make an account to keep your work between visits.
- One account per person, with an email address that is yours. Keep your password to yourself; what is done with your account is your responsibility. You may delete your account at any time (Account → Delete the account).
- To make an account you must be 16 or older, or have your parent's or guardian's consent.
- Use the simulator as a person would, through its pages. Do not probe or attack the service, do not load it with scripts or automated requests beyond a page's own, do not try to get around its limits, and do not try to reach another visitor's data.
- Do not use the service for anything illegal.
We may limit, suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or burdens the service for others, after a notice when that is possible.
4. The results are a model's
What the simulator shows (temperatures, strengths, flows, congeners, cuts, yields, time) is computed from a model and from published measurements, with the approximations the documentation describes. It is not a measurement of your equipment, and it can be wrong. Do not rely on it for operating real equipment, for decisions about safety, or for anything the law regulates. Check against your own measurements.
5. The law where you are
Distilling spirits is regulated, licensed or prohibited in many countries, and the rules differ. The simulator does not tell you what is allowed where you live, and nothing here is legal advice. Whether and how you use what you learn with real equipment is your responsibility, under your own country's law.
6. What is whose
The simulator, its model, data, texts, pictures and code belong to us or to those who let us use them. You may use the service for yourself; you may not copy it, sell access to it, or take its data out for other products without our written agreement.
What you make in the simulator (your runs, recipes, saved products and notes) is yours. You let us store and process it to run the service for you, and to count how the simulator is used as the Privacy page describes. We do not claim anything else from it.
7. No warranty, limited liability
The service is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind: not that it is correct, available, or fit for a purpose. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for losses or damage from using the simulator or from not being able to use it, including damage to equipment, lost product, lost data, or consequences of the law where you are. Nothing in these terms limits rights that your own country's law gives you and that cannot be limited.
8. Changes
We may change these terms. The date at the bottom says when; a change that matters is announced in the simulator. If you keep using the service after a change, the new terms apply. If you do not agree, stop using the service and, if you have an account, delete it.
9. The law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of the provider's country, without taking away the consumer rights your own country's law gives you. If something is wrong, write to us first: most things are solved by a mail.
